When, Where, and in What Strength.

Abstract

The validity of surprise as a principle of war over the next twenty years was examined in the light of current technology. Wars and battles since the early 19th Century, with emphasis on the 20th Century, were examined along with the effect of military preparedness on the belligerence of nations in the same time period. Recent studies of international relations in general and the development of both tactics and technology in particular are included. (Modified author abstract)
