Interactions among the Various Phenomena Involved in the Design of Dynamic and Rotary Machinery and Their Effects on Reliability.

Abstract

Endurance strength testing under reversed bending of AISI 4340, 4130, 1038 and 1018 steel 0.040 in. diameter wires was completed and distribution S-N diagrams were prepared. Endurance strength testing under reversed bending of AISI 4130 steel rods of 0.0937 in. and 0.2700 in. diameters and a notch sensitivity analysis were accomplished. Axial fatigue endurance testing was completed on AISI 1018 and 1038 steel rods to generate distributional Goodman strength diagrams. The computer program to determine the equation of the leat-squares best-fit curve of the Goodman diagram was completed. The experimental results of the entire program have been simmarized in the report. (Author)
