Analyses of X-Ray Laser Approaches: 1. Extension of 3p Yield 3s Ion Lasers into the Vacuum-UV Region.

Abstract

The feasibility of extending existing near-ultraviolet ion lasers into the vacuum-ultraviolet spectral region is analyzed with a simple three level model. Single-pass amplification in a laser-produced plasma of reasonable length is predicted, especially for high electron temperatures. The results are intended to serve as a basis and incentive for further more complete numerical modeling and for experiments. (Modified author abstract)
