Cesium-Atomic Beam Oscillator Technology for Navigation Satellites.

Abstract

The report presents the results of the initial phase of a program of engineering design work, testing, and analytical studies directed toward the development of cesium beam atomic frequency standards suitable for navigation satellite use. Specific objectives of the initial phase were: Qualification of a cesium beam tube for survival in launch-vehicle environment and reliable operation in satellite environment; analysis of cesium oscillator power requirements, existing art and potential power reduction; and evaluation of remote adjustment requirements, crystal oscillator aging, and other adjustments.
