Exploitation of Central Mechanisms in Listening to Noisy Speech.
Abstract
The central purpose of this study is to determine whether there are conditions in which the dichotic release from masking can be exploited in speech communication. The report describes the results of a careful study of the masking phenomenon over a selected range of stimulus intensities, signal/noise ratios, consonants in different vowel environments and in continuous synthetic speech employing a total of more than 140 listeners.
