Evaluation of the Nuclear Fire Threat to Urban Areas

Abstract

The nuclear fire threat to urban areas was evaluated in a four-task program. An attempt was made to integrate the present structural fire behavior knowledge with blast knowledge and to predict the combined blast-fire responses of an urban area to a nuclear attack. The structural response to blast waves, fire spread in debris, simulating air blast effects, blast-fire interaction, and the influence of air blast were studied.
