A Growing Military Power in the Pacific.

Abstract

The purpose of the essay is to investigate the conditions which existed in Japan after her defeat in World War II, and specifically the security considerations of both the Japanese and the United States in the post-war period which ultimately resulted in the establishment of the Self-Defense Forces. It traces the policies and programs of the SDF to it's present state. Finally, it touches on national and international conditions of the present which may impact on the future of the SDF.
