Abstract

The paper examines the inadequacy of procedures for selection and training of project managers as regards weapon systems management. The increasing complexity and cost of our modern weapon systems make efficient Present methods are inadequate for the scientific selection of the best potential managers available. Training programs in the Department of Defense are confined largely to the classroom environment and do not provide in the Department of Defense a wide variety of practical experiences for managerial students. In light of the shortcomings of the present system, possible improved methods of manager selection and training were examined. As a result of the investigation, a more positive system of personnel selection is proposed. (Modified author abstract)
