Union Recognition: Its Effect on Enlistment.

Abstract

The essay addresses the question as to whether or not the union recognition of civilian related Army skill training would be an added inducement to enlistment. The essay explains the importance of union recognized skill training as an inducement to enlistment in the British Royal Engineers. It describes the modest union recognition program of the US Army Corps of Engineers and the favorable reaction of a group of soldiers to union recognition of Army skills as an inducement to enlistment. The essay then discusses the advantages and disadvantages of union recognition to the Army. It concludes that union recognition of civilian related skills would be an added inducement to enlistment and of overall benefit to the Army.
