A Static Problem of External Cracks.

Abstract

Of concern here is the distribution of stress in an isotropic elastic medium containing two external cracks. The two-dimensional plane-strain model in the classical theory of elasticity is considered. The boundary value problem is reduced to a pair of dual integral equations with trigonmetric kernels. Closed form expressions are obtained for (a) the stress intensity factor, (b) the normal component of stress on the line of crack and (c) the crack profile. (Author)
