Hydraulic Cylinder and Seals Specification Study.

Abstract

Since the initiation of the OSU-MERDC Seal-Cylinder Project in 1970, a great deal of effort has been expended in the development and verification of a complete series of cylinder and seal performance evaluation procedures. This document represents the final phase of this effort and includes the completed versions of all the procedures. The procedures which were newly developed or revised during this phase include rod seal contaminant sensitivity, wiper seal ingression characteristics, cylinder dynamic leakage, and cylinder contaminant sensitivity. Also included in this report is an evaluation of the interaction characteristics of the various hydraulic cylinder seals. Service life relationships are discussed for both individual seals and seals in combination. (Author)
