Hydraulic System Noise Study.

Abstract

The purpose of the OSU-MERDC Hydraulic Specification Program is to develop industrially acceptable test procedures and requirement specifications relative to the performance of hydraulic components and systems to facilitate the military's 'buy commercial' approach. Although the program has been aimed toward components and systems for future 3000 psi operating pressure levels, it was intended that the test procedures be applicable to any pressure level. The report presents a detailed account of the experimental verification part of the hydraulic noise study. Test procedures for the measurement of hydraulic component noise developed under this contract are presented and experimentally verified. A summary of the work performed on measurement facility verification is presented. The acoustical properties of selected military fluid power components are presented and compared to a spectrum of current production components from industry. Specific recommendations are made for continuing the effort to understand and control hydraulic noise.
