Precipitation Climatology for Microwave Link Performance in Southern Germany.

Abstract

Estimates of link and system reliability for microwave communications at 15 GHz depend principally on knowledge of rainfall intensity and storm size in the system area. The general characteristics of precipitation in southern Germany, particularly in those areas near Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Augsburg, and the upper Rhine valley, are discussed in the report. Data from rainfall-rate measurements at several locations are summarized, and the possibility of squall line formation is analyzed. (Author)
