Army Reserve Components the Challenge of the '70s.

Abstract

The major problem facing the Reserve Components in the 1970's is the procurement of sufficient volunteers to insure full authorized manning. The effect of the termination of the draft has reduced the number of nonprior-service accessions and has resulted in an understrength condition in both components. Statistical reports and recent studies were reviewed and analyzed. Proposed incentives are reviewed and reliance on opinion survey is challenged. Encouraging trends are identified and the prognosis for a strong Guard and Reserve in 1980 is reported to be good, with or without monetary incentives. (Author)
