A Mathematical Estimate and Forecast of the Optimum Sample Size in Time Studies of Personnel in Scientific-Research Organizations,

Abstract

The purpose of a time study of scientific workers is to find solutions which will facilitate a reorganization of labor and increase work efficiency. The usual method which is used to study the time spent on work by workers in scientific-research institutes, is a record of the working day made by the workers; another possible method is the discreet observation method. More reliable data are obtained by the complex (combined) method, which combines data from both aforementioned methods. A proposed model makes it possible to work out an optimizing approach to the problem of selecting the sample size which is needed for the statistical study. (Author)
