Investigation of 4-Amino-5-Pyrazolones. III. Preparation of a Masked Color Negative by Sequential Treatment of a Three-Layer Film,

Abstract

Harmful absorptions of color negatives can be masked by treatment with 1,2-disubstituted 4-amino-5-pyrazolones (I) in the presence of oxidizing agents (II). The mechanism has been studied for a number of stabilizers, using 4-aminoantipyrine (AP) as (I) and potassium ferricyanide as (II). The best results are obtained by processing with 2.5% AP solution as (I) containing 1% NaOH 9pH 9-9.5) as (II) for 1 minute at 20C. This improves color reproduction by masking harmful zonal absorption of the cyan and magneta dyes, although reducing the contrast coefficients of the blue- and green-sensitive layers. (Author)
