Temperature of Thermal Peaks during Ionic Crystal Irradiation,

Abstract

In 5 Mev proton and 20 Mev alpha irradiation of polycrystalline NaNO2 tablets, two radiative dissonance zones with different activation energies were observed with corresponding peak temperatures of 324 and 345K, respectively. These correspond to NaNO2 decomposition temperatures and differe slightly from room temperature for the irradiation. Energy is distributed in a very short time over a wide area before it is transferred to the lattice. (Author)
