Radiation Safety in the Design and Operation of High-Power Betatrons,

Abstract

A simplified method is suggested for computing biological shielding for high-power betatrons which is accurate enough for solving practical problems of attenuation of bremsstrahlung, foreign, and accompanying electromagnetic radiations. In practice it can be considered that the effective energy of quanta of bremsstrahlung radiation is equal to one half the maximum energy of bremsstrahlung beta-particles at E(max) < or = 10 mev and to one third the maximum energy if 10 mev < or = E(max) 30 mev.
