Effect of Levomycetin on the Transformation of Streptomycin Resistance in Streptococci,

Abstract

The report studies the effect of the protein synthesis inhibitor levomycetin on the transformation of streptomycin resistance in streptococci. The transformation of streptococci sensitive to streptomycin (recipient) into resistant streptococci was accomplished by means of DNA isolated from a streptomycin-resistant strain of streptococci (the donor). After establishment of the transforming activity of the DNA a study was made of the effect of levomycetin in a subbacteriostatic concentration on the transformation of streptomycin resistance in streptococci.
