Study of the Physiological Peculiarities of the Griseofulvin Producers 'Pen. nigricans Thom and Pen. urticae' during Culturing on Synthetic Media,

Abstract

Preliminary studies were carried out on the cultural and morphological peculiarities of the griseofulvin producers on two solid media (Czapek medium and one containing corn extract), where it was found that they correspond to the two species Penicillium nigricans Thom and P. urticae Bain according to the Raper-Thom determination. The intensity of growth of the fungus and antibiotic biosynthesis in a deep culture depends on the composition of the seeded medium. When the seeded material was grown on a medium with 2% starch (background of the 'S-5' medium) for 72 hours, the activity of the griseofulvin was double that (P. nigricans) than on the 'S-5' fermentation medium.
