Magnetic Neutralization in a Modulated Electron Beam-Plasma System.

Abstract

The injection of an intense, relativistic electron beam into a plasma is facilitated by counterstreaming plasma electrons which tend to neutralize the self-magnetic field of the electron beam. In the report magnetic neutralization is examined for the case of injection of a modulated electron beam into a plasma. Analytical expressions are derived and compared with the unmodulated beam case.
