Towards Shorter Wavelength Lasers and Breaking the 1000 A Barrier I (Electron and Photon Pumping).

Abstract

In the report electron and proton pumping as excitation mechanisms for vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) and x-ray lasers are discussed. Criteria are developed and quantitative estimates of the required pump powers are given. The necessary tools for model calculations are presented and some possible short wave laser sources are pointed out. (Author)
