Studies of Slurry Fueled Propulsion Systems.

Abstract

The study has been conducted to test performances of various specific fuels, both high energy hydrocarbon and slurry fuels, in a sudden dump ramjet combustor and determine the effects of design variables of the combustor on fuel performance. In particular, the combustion efficiencies (determined from measured thrust rises) of specific fuels in the various sudden dump ramjet combustor are presented as a function of equivalence ratio. A description of the facility used in the data acquisition process is presented. The results of the various fuels and the effects of the design variables of the combustor are then presented and discussed. Also presented are the studies performed in the areas of flame visualization and flow visualization. These studies were initiated with the objectives of obtaining insight into the fluid mechanics and effects of design variables of the sudden dump ramjet combustor. (Modified author abstract)
