Beamforming of Sensor Arrays by Computer.

Abstract

The methods available for the resolution of a signal from a broadband sensor array into its frequency and direction components are discussed with particular emphasis on the use of digital computers and fast Fourier transform processors in the analysis of signals from acoustical arrays. The theory and practice of beamforming by time delays, phase delays, and by the cross spectral method are discussed, and some results are given to illustrate the relative efficiencies on a typical modern computer.
