Joint Radar/Satellite Experiments at Chatanika, Alaska.

Abstract

The results of joint radar/satellite experiments at Chatanika, Alaska are reported. Two types of experiments are described: (1) simultaneous observation of electron-density profiles obtained by incoherent-scatter and topside-sounding techniques, and comparison of the two sets of results; and (2) measurement of electron density and energetic particle flux, and the combination of these measurements to obtain profiles of effective recombination coefficient. The latter experiment (2) has been completed and is described in some detail. Values of effective recombination coefficient obtained by this technique compare favorably with results reported elsewhere. (Author)
