Performance Estimates for Powered Parafoil Systems

Abstract

The estimated flight performance of powered parafoil systems are presented for various system weights ranging from 10 pounds to 10,000 pounds. Special attention is given to level flight, climbing and descending flight, and take-off distance. The equations of motion are summarized and the effect of the thrust pitch angle is evaluated. Various system designs such as manned flight, cargo and weapon delivery, and decoy and jammer vehicles are considered as examples for using the performance curves and equations.
