Ambulatory Patient Medical Records System Pilot Project.

Abstract

The technical objective of the study is to demonstrate the usefulness of 15 improvement actions in improving the general management and handling of out-patient medical records--to include filing, retrieval, and transmittal of such records--as well as improving the quality of the records. This study seeks to improve their outpatient medical records systems to the point that they will be an ideal demonstration of how hospitals can fully meet the principal of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals that hospitals should maintain facilities and services that are adequate to provide accurately documented and readily accessible medical records. After a baseline systems analysis, and workload measurement at each hospital, various improvement actions are being carried out at both hospitals. (Modified author abstract)
