A New Method for Combining the Method of Moments with the Geometrical Theory of Diffraction.

Abstract

A technique for combining moment methods with the geometrical theory of diffraction is presented which permits the solution of problems which cannot be practically solved by either method individually. The fundamental idea used to develop the hybrid technique is to modify the usual impedance matrix which characterizes, for example, a wire antenna such that a nearby metallic body or discontinuity on that body is properly accounted for. This modification is readily accomplished using the geometrical theory of diffraction and/or geometrical optics. Several example problems are considered to illustrate the usefulness of the technique.
