Spectral Radiation Properties of the Atmosphere and the Earth. Profiles of Water Vapor and Methane Mixing Ratios from Measurements with Balloon Borne Instruments.

Abstract

In previous reports a two channel filter radiometer has been described to be used for the determination of mixing ratios of minor constituents in the stratosphere from aboard a balloon or a sounding rocket. Two of these instruments were flown in a balloon on April 5, 1971. Besides testing the instruments the intention was to develop and test evaluation techniques for the transmission data from the instruments and get a first value of mixing ratio for water vapor and methane in the lower stratosphere. Evaluation techniques are described and water vapor and methane profiles between 12 and 30 km altitude are shown which were derived from the data of this balloon flight. (Author)
