Study of Control of Partial Differential Equation Systems with Flight Control Applications.

Abstract

The report discusses linear quadratic optimal control results for distributed parameter systems. Two systems are considered - the flexible string and the circular membrane - both with control operating only on the boundary of the physical medium. Quadratic optimal controllers for these systems are shown to depend heavily on boundary measurements made at the same point where the control is applied. The controllers effectively attenuate wave processes with nearly uniform damping of all natural vibration modes. (Author)
