On Cubic Spline Functions Which Vanish at all Knots.

Abstract

Several questions raised in the recent literature regarding the existence and uniqueness, and the global and local convergence of cubic spline interpolants are answered using an observation by G. Birkhoff concerning the exponential growth of cubic null splines. (Author)
