Chemical Aging Studies on ANB-3066 and TP-H1011 Propellants

Abstract

An accelerated aging study performed with ANB-3066 propellant shows that it conforms to the same aging law or model that describes the aging behavior for TP-H1011 propellant. The crosslinking reaction of imine from the curing agent and carboxyl from the polymer is shown to be essentially complete at the end of the cure period. Evidence also shows that the aging reaction may well be a crosslinking across double bonds in the polymer chains. Chemical and mechanical tests performed at periodic intervals after aging at 75, 95, 115, 135 and 150F have led to a better understanding of the aging process and have made predictions of future behavior possible. Curves showing a 10 year prediction for tensile stress, strain, and modulus have been included. Two special studies with TP-H1011 propellant have been made to determine the effects of strain and of a second or multistep aging condition on the aging rate.
