Study of Operating Modes of Diesel Locomotive Alkaline Storage Batteries (Povyshenie Effektivnosti Elektricheskoi Peredachi Teplovozov),

Abstract

The paper discusses an analysis of processes occurring during operation of iron-nickel batteries. In the range of above-zero temperatures (C), the capacity of batteries in the starter discharge mode is limited by the positive electrode, not the negative electrode. The battery charging voltage of 75 v (1.63 v/element) currently used causes extreme overcharging of batteries and excessive heating. This significantly reduces the service life of batteries and decreases their operating reliability.
