A Digitally Controlled Time Varying Gain Amplifier,

Abstract

The project concerns the design, testing, and application of a digitally controlled time varying gain amplifier. Because the system has direct use in pulse sonar receivers, the acoustic parameters which enter into the design considerations are discussed. The effects of operational amplifier limitations on the system are developed, and several methods for digitally controlling the amplifier gain are studied. One typical application is developed and a particular circuit design, as well as test data from system verification tests, is presented. (Author)
