Feasibility of Obtaining a 1967 Ruble/Dollar Conversion Ratio.

Abstract

The report analyzes the feasibility of obtaining a 1967 ruble/dollar conversion ratio to reflect the 1 July 1967 wholesale prices of the Soviet Union. Soviet prices and specification data were collected on producers' durables of the machine building sector, and wholesale prices and specifications were obtained for comparable U.S. equipment. A small sample of unweighted ratios for individual items is given and analyzed. The availability and the quality of other Soviet statistical data required for updating the 1955 conversion ratios is discussed and alternative approaches suggested. (Author)
