Quantization Effects in Fixed-Point Recursive Digital Filters.

Abstract

Errors due to roundoff of products after multiplication and coefficient quantization are examined for fixed-point finite wordlength digital filters. An absolute bound on limit cycles is derived. A design procedure for a new class of multiple feedback or leapfrog digital filters is proposed and tested. A general sensitivity roperty relating to the wave digital filter is proved and verified by example. The cascade, wave, ladder and multiple feedback filters are compared statistically with regard to coefficient sensitivity and roundoff noise. (Author)
