Final Technical Report of Research Performed under Office of Naval Research Contract N00014-69-A-0220-0002,

Abstract

The results of research in anion electrocatalysis are summarized, and some remaining problems outlined. Major contributions include: Introduction of the concept of surface activity of adsorbed ions and of its role in electrocatalysis; discovery of the coupling between interfacial and transport impedances; and, first quantitative evaluation of an electrochemical oscillator. The remaining problems are associated with uncertainties in the surface activities of adsorbed ions and, possibility to an even much larger extent, with properties of the 'transition state'.
