A Study of the Delayed-Type Hypersensitivity in Response to the Administration of CL perfringens Toxoid,

Abstract

The purpose of the work was to test the delayed-type hypersensitivity in the animals immunized with the Cl perfringens toxoid of type A. The authors investigated 13 series of a purified concentrated toxoid of which 9 are based on the medium of a mixture of acid and pancreatic hydrolyzates of casein with the autolysate of brewing yeasts and 4 obtained on casein nutrient medium. The introduction of the Cl perfringens toxoid evoked the development of hypersensitivity of the delayed type in the animals which intensified under the effect of the Freund's adjuvant or aluminum hydroxide. Repeated introduction of the Cl perfringens toxoid led to an increase in the level of antitoxins in the blood serum and to a certain decrease in the intensity of skin reactions in the inoculated animals.
