Indices of Refraction of Molten Fluorides of Lithium, Sodium, and Potassium,

Abstract

The indices of refraction of LiF, NaF, and KF are calculated at 900, 950, and 1000 degrees according to certain radial wave functions of ions in a crystal field and on the basis of an autocomplex model of the structure of molten halogenides of alkali metals. The calculated sizes are in agreement with experimental data. For molten KF, the closest agreement of the calculation with the experiment is observed when it is based on the assumption that the anion F(-), not a cation, serves as the complexing agent.
