Mathematical Formulation of the Variational Equations for the Determination of the Earth's Gravity Field.

Abstract

Expressions for the coefficients and forcing term are derived for the variational equations to be used in a new computer program being developed to determine the earth's gravity field (Program TERRA). Also a brief idea of the role of variational equations is sketched. (Author)
