Operating System Command Languages - A Brief History of Their Study.

Abstract

Although command languages in one form or another have been in use since the earliest monitor systems of the late 1950's, they were not recognized as a major problem until the introduction of OS 360 with its famous JCL. A knowledge of the history of OSCL (operating system command languages) studies, meetings, standardization work, etc., is presented as the background for the present meeting. A complete, documented history is presented. (Modified author abstract)
