Biochemical and Physiological Evaluation of Surfactant in the Etiology of Pulmonary Oxygen Toxicity.

Abstract

Hyperbaric oxygen (OHP) inhibits the production of lung surfactant. The project investigated the effect of OHP on the synthesis of surfactant lecithin. OHP reduces the incorporation of palmitate and choline into lecithin of lung slices and homogenates, and the acylation of lysolecithin. There is evidence that OHP increases the half-life of lung lecithin. (Author)
