Nondestructive Inspection of Shelter Panels. Phase 1: Functional Model

Abstract

The report summarizes the first phase of an effort to develop equipment and procedures to inspect sandwich panels in air transportable shelters in the field. A rapid and simple-to-operate system has been developed, utilizing a unique eddy sonic technique for metal-faced panels and pitch-catch ultrasonic techniques for nonmetal faced panels. The location(s) of debonds and free moisture in the panel are reliably detectable with the system. A functional model has been successfully field tested.
