Storage Camera Tube with Non-Destructive Readout.

Abstract

The report describes the progress that occurred during the third quarter of a Research and Development Contract to develop a novel camera-tube capable of dual-mode operation, either as a real-time television camera-tube or as a storage camera-tube with non-destructive readout, switchable upon command. Initial lots of targets were fabricated using the higher density masks, which provide 2000 diodes per inch, and data relating storage-characteristics with diode-array geometry have been accumulated. Results of additional measurements of sensitivity at 0.8 micrometer and 1.06 micrometer are discussed. Electron-energy-distribution measurements mode on an electron gun of latest design confirm the superiority of the no-crossover mode of operation for non-destructive reading of the storage camera-tube target.
