A Study of the Potential for Useful Exchange in Chemical Structure Handling Areas of Four Chemical Information Systems.

Abstract

At least four computer systems capable of manipulating chemical structural information and textual data have been independently developed in recent years with the support of the U.S. Government. The considerable overlap in function among the systems suggests the possibility of fruitful interchange of ideas, data, or even computer programs. The study reported is a preliminary examination of this possibility, to determine how each of these systems might profit from the existence of the others both in an immediate and in a long term sense.
