Helmet-Mounted Display Tube Design.

Abstract

Four closely related areas of investigation were objectively pursued. They were: (1) Investigation of alternate methods for preparation and activation of a cold cathode comprised of a forward-biased p-n junction of silicon and a negative-electron-affinity (NEA) p-surface which will allow a fraction of the injected electrons to be emitted. (2) Construction of exploratory CRT's to evaluate the NEA emission in an operable device. (3) Design and development of an Advance Design Helmet-Mounted-Development Tube (AD-HMDT) using a conventional 'hot cathode' design. (4) Design and development of an electronics package for operation of the AD-HMDT under field-test conditions.
