An Analysis of Turbulent Flow with Shear,

Abstract

A simple statistical assumption is introduced, concerning the distribution of certain functionals of a turbulent flow field. This assumption is then used to formulate a system of difference equations which describes the moments of a turbulent flow with shear. No empirical parameters are used. An application to turbulent flow in a channel is carried out, and yields results in good agreement with experiment. A discussion of the relationship between the main assumption and theories of homogeneous turbulence is also given. (Author)
