On Charge Ordering in Fe3O4,

Abstract

The degree of short range order in the ground state of the usual nearest neighbor interaction model for magnetite is examined with a variational procedure. It is found that the short range order will become reasonably complete only for rather large interaction strengths. Consequences for the probable causes of the metal-non metal transition are briefly discussed. (Author)
