On the Distribution of the Maximum of Ratios of Order Statistics from a Restricted Family of Probability Distribution, with Applications,

Abstract

Restricted families of probability distributions are of very special interest in reliability theory. Families of distributions with increasing failure rate (IFR) and increasing failure rate on the average (IFRA) are well-known instances of such families. The restriction on the family of distributions in these cases is defined by a partial order relation with respect to a known distribution G. In the present paper the authors consider a restricted family of distributions where the partial ordering is star-ordering with respect to a normal distribution with mean zero folded at the origin.
