Foil Bearing Investigation. Study of Tape Behavior in Vacuum Columns. Application of Foil Bearing Theory to Vacuum Columns.

Abstract

Steady-state tape-to-wall separation in tape-drive vacuum-columns is analyzed for the case that the tape forms a flat zone near the wall. It is shown how formulae may be derived from foil bearing theory to predict film thickness. It is concluded that film thickness may vary substantially for the two walls of the vacuum chamber.
